Portland Opera Chorus

The Portland Opera Chorus is nationally renowned for its musical and theatrical abilities. National and international reviews of Portland Opera productions consistently include them among the best opera choruses around. Audiences have enjoyed them in a wide variety of guises, costumed in everything from royalty to rags. Their numbers on stage, like the orchestra, are determined by the requirements of the composer and the score. All members of American Guild of Musical Artists, the Portland Opera Chorus can also be found "masquerading" in many different professional guises in businesses and organizations throughout our community.

Portland Opera Orchestra

The Portland Opera is extremely fortunate to have the musical services of the Portland Opera Orchestra. Composed of extremely talented local musicians, the Orchestra members all belong to the American Federation of Musicians, Local #99. How many orchestra members are in the pit for any given opera varies, depending totally on the requirements of the score. When not performing with Portland Opera, the Orchestra members add immeasurably to our community in private roles as music teachers and a wide-ranging variety of other professions.

Portland Opera Studio

One of the most exciting changes at Portland Opera is the establishment of the Portland Opera Studio Artists program, designed to train the next generation of opera singers by providing a "bridge" from the conservatory world to the professional stage.

Selected at auditions in New York, five young singers fresh from some of the nation's finest vocal conservatories have joined the company for a rigorous nine-month training program.

In addition to vocal coaching, language training, acting classes, and master classes with mainstage guest artists, these young professionals will be featured in their own studio production of The Return of Ulysses where patrons will enjoy their work up close and personal in Portland Opera's 168-seat theater at The Hampton Opera Center. Keller Auditorium patrons will enjoy these young artists in supporting roles in our mainstage season offerings and a spring recital of lieder and art songs in our studio theater.

L-R: Christopher Clayton, baritone; Amber Opheim, soprano; Jeffrey Beruan, bass; Kendra Herrington, mezzo-soprano
